the Sanphalar community primary school was attacked by an SAC aircraft
On June 6, 2023, around 1:30 in the morning, the Sanphalar community primary school in Khu Don Village Tract, Kawt’ree (Kawkareik) Township, Dooplaya District (Myawaddy township under central administrative division), was attacked by an SAC aircraft.
According to local observers, the aircraft dropped a cluster bomb, which is prohibited under the Convention on Cluster Munitions (2010). The explosions resulted in severe damage to the school’s roof and doors, estimated at about two million kyat. The school is overseen by the Karen Education and Culture Department.
Since the coup on February 1, 2021, the SAC has destroyed or severely damaged a total of 17 schools in the seven districts under the administration of the Karen National Union (KNU).
