The Karen Education and Culture Department (KECD), a part of the Karen National Union (KNU), was formerly known as the Karen Education Department (KED). It serves as the governing body responsible for collaborating with communities to standardize, structure, deliver, and monitor sustainable, high-quality educational programs and outcomes for the people in Southeast Burma. KECD works closely with local communities, leaders, and authorities, as well as regional and international organizations, to ensure that its educational policies and practices promote inclusion, equality, peace, and democracy.
