On October 30, 2024, at approximately 3:00 PM, a jet fighter from the State Administration Council (SAC) conducted an airstrike on Htee Gaw Hta village in Dwe Lo Township, Mutraw District. This attack resulted in significant structural damage, including the destruction of one middle school, three civilian homes, and a school boarding house. This incident follows a similar SAC attack on October 25, 2024, at 10:15 AM, targeting Chaw Bweh Der village in Bu Tho Township, Mutraw District, which also damaged an education building and nearby homes.
The pattern of attacks suggests a deliberate strategy targeting Karen education and civilian areas, resulting in forced relocations of Karen Education and Culture Department (KECD)’s schools into remote jungle locations to continue providing essential education to Karen communities.
The KECD strongly condemns these actions and appeals to the international community to take a stand for justice and the protection of innocent lives amid ongoing violence.
