Two Students Injured by Unexploded Ordnance Following Airstrike in Hpaw Taw Village East
On January 31, 2026, at approximately 12:45 PM, in Hpaw Taw Village East, K’Ser Doh Township, Mergui–Tavoy District, two students were injured when unexploded ordnance (UXO) accidentally detonated.
Five days prior to this incident, on January 26, 2026, SAC jet fighters carried out bombing and airstrikes on Hpaw Taw Village East. As a result of the attack, unexploded ordnance was left behind in the village. Unaware of the danger, children later collected the unexploded object and played with it, which led to the explosion and injured two students.
A local villager stated:
“The two students dug up the unexploded ordnance and brought it home. Their mother scolded them, and they later placed it in nearby bushes. The next day, they returned to play with it and struck it with a wooden object, causing it to explode and injure them.”
Among the two injured students, one sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a town hospital.
