SAC Artillery Bombardments Threaten the New School Year

On June 14 2024, the SAC based in Wai Toe Ray, Ler Mu Lah Township, Mergui-Tavoy District, shelled artillery into Sibyet village, Htee Moe Pya area, striking the school campus. This violation resulted in damage to the new school infrastructure and created a threat to the school’s reopening.

A local officer reported, “The school building was recently completed. However, the school could not open yet because of the armed conflict causing displacement. Due to the conflict, an SAC mortar struck the school, but fortunately, it caused no injuries to students or teachers.

In Ler Mu Lah Township, schools could not be opened because of the armed conflict and displacement. Some students have moved to other townships, while others have returned home.”

Similarly, last April, two schools were destroyed by SAC jet fighter bombings.
