Civilian Casualties Due to SAC Shelling

May 31st, 2025  •  Category News  •  Author: KECD
On May 20, 2025, at around 5:30 PM, the SAC Battalion #60 deliberately fired heavy artillery into P’Reh Shee village, located in Thay Gaw Der tract, Moo Township, Kler Lwee Htu District (also known as Nyaunglebin District). This violent attack resulted in the injury of two innocent children—tragically, one of them lost his life.
Both victims were students at P’Reh Shee Primary School during the 2024–2025 academic year.
According to a local leader, “Battalion 60, which is based near Joil Jar village, fires heavy weapons almost every evening and night—regardless of whether there is active conflict. They are suspicious that their enemies might come and attack them.”
Details of the Affected Children:
Saw Moo Htaw Ba, age 9, a Grade 3 student suffered a severe head injury. After enduring five hours of critical condition, he sadly passed away.
Naw Say Bwe Moo, age 11, a Grade 4 student , sustained injuries to her lower body. She is currently receiving medical treatment at a local clinic.
A similar attack occurred on April 19, 2025, when the SAC bombed Khaw Poe Pleh Monastery in Bilin Township, Doo Tha Htu District, killing three civilians, including women and children.
The grieving family is now enduring deep psychological trauma and distress from the loss of their child. The local community also lives in constant fear, unsure of when the next attack might happen.
We stand in solidarity with the victims’ families and the entire community. We call upon the international community to take immediate steps to collaborate with us in protecting children and civilians in Karen State.
