International Day to Protect Education from Attack

September 9th, 2025  •  Category News  •  Author: KECD

Today, we stand together to mark the International Day to Protect Education from Attack. Every child has the right to learn freely, safely, and joyfully. Yet, in times of war and political conflict, children are too often reduced to collateral damage. Around the world, the powerful use weapons to oppress the weak, enforcing a brutal law of the jungle—where might makes right.

In Kawthoolei, the military junta (SAC) is destroying children’s lives every single day with airstrikes and heavy weapons. They deliberately target schools, fully aware that children are inside, studying. The attacks on Nawt Taet Khee Middle School (September 3, 2025) and U Moo Hta High School in Meh Proo village tract (August 19, 2025) prove this beyond doubt. There was no battle at these times—only classrooms filled with children. Yet, they opened fire, seeking the sound of children’s screams and bloodshed.

Communities are struggling against all odds to keep schools open, to give children a chance at happiness and learning. But the military junta seeks to burn that hope. They want to destroy not just classrooms, but the very future of our children—our future leaders. They are killing dreams and lives inside the very places meant to nurture them.

And the world knows.

The world hears.

Yet, despite knowing and hearing, too many continue to engage with those who commit these atrocities. That silence, that cooperation, deepens the tragedy.

On behalf of KECD, our leaders at every level—central, district, and township—pledge to continue working hand in hand with all who stand with us. We will keep protecting our schools and children. Because safeguarding children is not just our duty—it is the responsibility of all humanity, of every citizen of the world.
