Air Strike Destroys Mutraw Junior College Building Amidst New Year Celebrations

On April 14, 2026, during the Thingyan Water Festival, a Myanmar military jet launched an air strike that devastated the Mutraw Junior College (MTJC) campus.

The attack resulted in the total destruction of several key structures, including both the boys’ and girls’ dormitories, a two-story office building, and a two-story library.

Additionally, the strike destroyed a classroom building containing four rooms, an audio building, and the school hall.

Fortunately, because the campus was closed for the holiday, no students or teachers were present.

An officer from the college confirmed the severity of the damage, stating, “The office, library and dormitories are totally destroyed and we need major renovation for that, but we don’t have injuries in this case.”

This attack highlights a sad contrast in Myanmar: while the country celebrates the New Year, the military continues to use violence against pro-democracy groups and destroy vital educational infrastructure.
